The enduring charm of Classic toys


Every Christmas, it seems that there is a new and different toys fighting for the attention of our children. A few years ago, Japanese virtual pets such as Tamagotchi and Pokemon were all the rage, and shortly after that, toys like Furby and Teletubbies seemed to domineer Christmas. Many of these toys come and go as children lose interest and move on to the ' next big thing '. But there are some games whose appeal lasted for generations and are still popular with children whose parents or grandparents also enjoyed playing with them, when they were young, dolls and toys.

Toys, dolls and games that have delighted by decades

There are some classical names in the toy industry that spring immediately to mind, perhaps one of the most obvious being Barbie. This trendy young woman was a favorite with young people (boys and girls youth) since its launch in 1959. Barbie was created by Ruth Handler, whose husband was a co-founder of the Mattel toy company. The first Barbie, dolls were based on children. Manager noticed that his daughter enjoyed giving adult roles in these dolls and spotted a gap in the market. Classic toy trains and cars

Toy vehicles were perennially popular, and in particular a name has been synonymous with trains and cars for almost a century. At the beginning of the 20th century, Frank Hornby, who had previously achieved success with the invention of Meccano, introduced the first train set Hornby. The hornby dublo ' line ' popular was released in 1938. After a halt in production caused by World War II, the trains were reintroduced in 1947 and have been a favorite with kids and collectors ever since. The company's Hornby also created Dinky toys, a line of miniature cars, which were purchased by producers of Matchbox cars, in the 1980s.

Scalextric is another name in the world of toy vehicles that has stood the test of time, having populated toy stores for over 50 years. The slot car racing set have been in production since 1957 and have never lost their appeal to kids of all ages. Scalextric are now owned by Hornby Railways.

Family favorite for generations

As well as dolls and toys, there are a number of which continued to be favoured with your whole family for generations. Perhaps the best known is the monopoly. Commonly known version of this game was patented in 1935 by Charles Drew, Board positions in and around Atlantic City, New Jersey. It was based on an old game, the landlord's game, invented in 1904 by Elizabeth Phillips. Many versions of the monopoly now exist, some with roads, cities and other places by various countries, some based on popular movies and television programs such as Star Wars and the Simpsons.

Other board games that have endured for decades are Scrabble, first launched in 1938 and Cluedo, published in 1948. As with the monopoly, both of these games are available in a number of different versions, which helped to maintain popular with young and old players.
